3 Ways to Use Natural Stone in Any Room Design

September 20, 2017

Creating the perfect room requires an attention to detail that is at times delicate and, in other cases, brash and bold.

The use of natural stone in a room design offers an ideal way to build the foundation of the composition, a focal point or the middle ground that brings all the other materials together.

Foundation of the Design

Every room configuration requires a foundation. Without it, the pieces have no basis on which to create a beautiful flow throughout the space. The foundation may be a large piece of furniture, or a stone countertop. Although the foundation piece you select should probably not be overly brash, it does not need to be so understated that you barely notice it. Rather, stone as a foundation may serve as your core neutral, featuring a unique slab of granite. It may become a basis for contrast, with soapstone to set off white cabinetry or walls. With the right foundation, the mood you create for the room could range from simple to striking, depending on the accents you select to coordinate.

Focal Point

Although stone is known for its ability to be subsumed into a larger design, at times, it becomes the star of the show. Imagine stones with shades of bright red and orange, set into a slab that could serve as a countertop, backsplash or even flooring. Precioustone takes advantage of the wondrous variety of stone crystals such as amethyst, agate and jasper. The end result is an accent material for the room that is entirely unique in design and unlike anything that you might see elsewhere in the neighborhood. Such a surface is entirely practical for use, and yet it might become the conversation piece that draws the most attention.

Cohesion

A truly bold design plan for a room requires all the elements to work together, lest it fall out of the dream of chic and into a funhouse nightmare. Natural stone has a gift in bringing out or toning down the loud, whilst emphasizing the pale and understated. In this case, stone becomes the piece that creates a beautiful set. For example, a trendy grey wood floor would be lovely with an accent color in bright turquoise or even red. Balance it with a gentle Cambria quartz in coordinating colors, or a pale marble to bring out the tones of the wood. At completion, the stone acts as a proud feature of the room without drowning out the hues surrounding it.

One of the beautiful things about natural stone is that it can match and best even the toughest designs. Whether you want to set stone as your neutral for an outspoken color scheme, or even as the focal point, you can choose colors and styles that are as varied as the colors you see in nature. And as always, you can rely on the durability of the stone to serve you well for many years to come.
