Cambria Technical Information
All of the 150+ designs offered by Cambria are made from the highest quality quartz and enhanced for durability to suit modern life. The combination of the natural quartz and technological innovations creates a surface that is ideal for kitchen surfaces, as they can stand up to the high traffic of a busy home kitchen. Cambria products are harder than granite or marble, rated a 7 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, so their surfaces are unlikely to crack or scratch. Cambria is made of 93% natural quartz, one of the hardest minerals on Earth, and 7% resin and pigments. And since the surfaces are nonporous, they won’t absorb liquids or food, resulting in a more hygienic surface. Cambria is NSF-51 certified for food and splash zone use. Cambria is also GREENGUARD certified as a low-emitting product for indoor air quality.
The scratch- and etch-resistant nature of Cambria means that it requires less diligence on the part of a homeowner. A wayward knife or spilled citrus juice won’t mar the surface of your countertop. And since the surfaces are nonporous, Cambria quartz doesn’t absorb liquids or food, which can cause staining and bacterial growth within the countertop, resulting in a more hygienic surface. Cambria surfaces are maintenance-free – they never need to be sealed or reconditioned, and cleaning requires no more than a warm, soapy cloth. They’re also heat-resistant, so the design won’t fade due to ambient heat near a fireplace, hot stove, or heated styling appliances. However, sudden and/or rapid changes in temperature could harm any natural stone, so use of a hot pad or trivet is always recommended. For easy cleaning, we recommend Simply Green®, an effective, non-toxic, non-abrasive all-purpose cleaner.
Cambria designs are ideal for use throughout the home, from wall cladding, to fireplace surrounds, kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities. You can also customize the thickness of your slab to the project at hand, since most Cambria designs are available in 1cm*, 2cm*, and 3cm thicknesses.
*1cm and 2cm are by special order only; an upcharge will apply.
Additionally, Cambria makes it even easier to customize your project to complete your vision, offering 19 different edge options for countertops. Whether you’re looking for ornate and elegant, sleek and streamlined, or rustic and natural, there’s an option for you to create the perfect finishing touch.
About the Design: Berwyn™ by Cambria
Cambria’s Berwyn™ is a natural stone from their Waterstone Collection™, “inspired by the peaks and ridges of the rugged mountain range in the northeast of Wales where heather blooms and raptors soar majestically overhead,” Cambria states.
Cambria describes its Waterstone Collection™ as “dynamic designs (that) echo the stormy relationship between sea and shore.” These unique patterns feature ripples and swirls that call to mind the current of natural waters, which infuse a dimension of movement and interest to your space. Subtle variations and fades in color mimic the natural imperfections of straight-from-the-earth stone, but with the enhanced features and durability offered by Cambria surfaces.
As demonstrated by this stunning white kitchen, Berwyn™ countertops are especially stunning when paired with white or ivory cabinetry to infuse some warmth and ambience. These snowy tones are enduringly popular for home kitchens, but the white-on-white can look cold and sterile, which doesn’t suit homeowners who envision their kitchen as a gathering place for friends and family. The light tones of the BerwynTM design help preserve that simplified monochrome aesthetic, but create a cozier undertone that keeps your space looking its best.
The varying tones in Berwyn™ can be dressed up or down according to your individual taste and design style. While this design certainly suits a casual aesthetic, it won’t look out of place alongside stainless steel or glass pendant lights. The flecks and ripples of this stone are reminiscent of marble and granite, and with a bright shine like Cambria’s High Gloss™ finish, it can easily be made to suit bathroom vanities or luxury corporate offices.
In the featured kitchen, the homeowner combined a streamlined, simple edge profile with high-end lighting fixtures and stainless steel appliances, for a simple yet modern look that isn’t too fussy, but still embraces the elegance of natural quartz.
Homeowners who wish to incorporate any Cambria designs in their own kitchens can utilize Cambria’s unique Paint Match Tool to choose the ideal shade to showcase the stone. Through a collaboration with Benjamin Moore, Cambria created this helpful tool to suggest four Benjamin Moore paint colors that would complement your chosen Cambria design.
In this case, the tool suggests shades to bring out the neutrals that make up the design: the deep-taupe Sparrow shade, light khaki Misty Air, and greyish-tan Revere Pewter paints are all recommended to complement Berwyn™ countertops. Among Cambria’s own offerings, the Marble collection’s classic white Torquay™, Swanbridge™, and Newport™ shades provide varying levels of veining and undertones (from warm Swanbridge™ to cool Torquay™) to offset the Berwyn™ design. Perfect for backsplashes, a matching kitchen island, or wall cladding around a freestanding bathtub.
