How to Choose the Paint Color that Complements Your Cambria Quartz Countertops

February 5, 2018

You’ve fallen in love with one of Cambria’s 140+ designs and can’t wait to see it in your kitchen, bathroom, or living space. But you want to make sure that your wall color doesn’t distract or even detract from the stunning beauty of your countertops.

Since most of us don’t have an interior decorator’s eye for style and color, many people have trouble visualizing how a full countertop slab will look against a particular shade, or become intimidated by the seemingly endless swatches available. Buying paint samples, swiping test streaks on your walls, and then returning to the store for yet another contender can get tiresome. With so many options, how can you possibly choose the best hue?

Cambria makes it simple to choose a paint shade to complement their natural quartz surfaces. Through a collaboration with Benjamin Moore, Cambria offers a Paint Match Tool that showcases four true-to-life Benjamin Moore paint colors to complement your chosen Cambria design.

“Embracing the natural harmony that exists between Cambria’s design palette and Benjamin Moore’s paint colors, every Cambria design is now paired with four designer-selected Benjamin Moore hues,” Cambria says of the partnership. “Cambria’s interactive Benjamin Moore Paint Match Tool allows users to visualize each Benjamin Moore paint color against the shades, movement and tones inherent in all 140+ Cambria designs.”

To start, choose any design from Cambria’s design palette, and scroll down to the section for “Complementary Paint Colors” for four paint color recommendations. The tool uses color theory to match Benjamin Moore shades to each Cambria option, like a virtual interior designer!

Why Choose Cambria?

Cambria Quartz offers the best of natural stone, improved and enhanced for modern life.

Each design selection is perfected by Cambria and embraces the beauty of natural quartz while enhancing the stone’s durability. Cambria products are harder than granite or marble, rated a 7 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, so their surfaces are unlikely to crack or scratch. Since Cambria countertops are nonporous, they are considered very hygienic; meaning they won’t absorb liquids from spills or harbor harmful bacteria. As an added benefit, Cambria surfaces are nearly maintenance free – they never need to be sealed or reconditioned, and cleaning requires no more than a warm, soapy cloth. They’re also heat-resistant, so the design won’t fade due to ambient heat near a fireplace, hot stove, or heat styling appliances.

Best of all, Cambria products offer a consistent perfection that can’t be matched by nature alone. As life is constantly changing and shifting, homeowners may find themselves wishing for more counter space in the kitchen, or they may love their countertops so much they’d like to extend the design to another application in their home. With Cambria Quartz, you can be certain that if you return to a design years later, you can still find a matching slab. This makes future renovations or add-ons easy and convenient, as you won’t have to spend time worrying about how to design a cohesive counter space. Homeowners will be pleased to learn that they won’t have to replace their entire countertops, for a small project like adding to a kitchen island or extending a peninsula – there will always be more of the same Cambria design available and you will always be able to find a perfect match.

Cambria also makes it easier to envision how the final product will look within a space. With many natural stone designs, it’s imperative to see each slab in person to better visualize how it will look in your home. The variations in natural stone means that two portions from the same slab can look vastly different. With Cambria Quartz, however, you can be certain that the sample will accurately represent the entire piece used for your countertop. Take that sample to your home or business and get a better look at how it works with the light, paint colors, countertops, and your overall design aesthetic without worrying about being surprised by the final product, or having to make a separate trip to see additional slabs.

Cambria designs are ideal for use throughout your home, from wall cladding, to fireplace surrounds, to kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities.

With the Paint Match Tool, it’s simple to find the perfect shade to pair with any Cambria design, including the multicolored varied or marbled patterns of their Waterstone™ or Marble™ collections. No guesswork, no painter’s remorse – just a sophisticated match to ensure your home always looks stylish.

Matches for Popular Cambria Designs

With the broad range of designs offered by Cambria, there is a style available for nearly any aesthetic! Here are some of the most popular designs, and the shades that match.

Cambria Ella™

Cambria Ella™ - Marble Collection - Kitchen Countertop

Cambria Ella™ - Marble Collection - Kitchen Countertop

With the broad, flowing veins of grey and black against a not-too-bright dove white background, this selection, part of Cambria’s Marble collection, exudes the modern elegance of white marble, but with the durability that defines Cambria quartz surfaces.

Because the light hue of Ella™ is so versatile, it is easy to find a complementary paint shade. Cambria recommends a palette of soft neutral white, grey, brown or buttery pastel yellow to bring out the warm undertones of the design without stealing the show. To that end, the Paint Match Tool suggests the pale icy hue “Distant Gray,” the light stone shade “Silver Satin,” the brown-tinted “Kingsport Gray,” and the smoky-tinged yellow of “Castleton Mist.”

Cambria Summerhill™

Cambria Summerhill™ - Coastal Collection - Kitchen Countertop

A design in Cambria’s Coastal Collection, the Summerhill™ design is an unexpected take on the marble-like designs for which the Quartz brand is known. Wide ripples of greys create movement among a warm sandy-tan background scattered with flecks of back, calling to mind the imprints of waves in the sand at low tide. Cambria describes the design as “calm and serene with dramatic accents,” adding that it’s named after the coastal Welsh village “where stately clouds drift gently out to sea across a silver-dappled sky.”

The Summerhill™ design blends warm and cool tones beautifully, allowing it to be used for nearly any aesthetic. As such, the Paint Match Tool recommends a variety of shades of different undertones, from the lighter, cool-toned “Thunder” shade to the deep “Amherst gray.” Even the pale “White dove” shade blends with the white-to-tan tones of Summerhill™, ideal for those who want their kitchen to have a bright and clean feel, or to bring light to a windowless room. A more brown-tinged offering, the taupe of “Silver Fox” is an on-trend, yet timeless, option as well.

Cambria Bradshaw™

Another offering from the Waterstone Collection, Bradshaw is a more brown-toned design with shimmering copper alongside swirls of black for movement and interest. Cambria describes this design as being inspired by “the stained glass that graced a 16th century church famous in this part of England.”

Because Bradshaw already has so many undulating and varying shades, as well as lots of movement within it, a homeowner might be wary of the task of finding the perfect complementary shade without making a space too overwhelming to the eye. But the Paint Match tool has no such reservations. From the warm, buttery tones of the “Rich Cream” paint shade to the bold brick red of “Mexicana,” Cambria suggests that Bradshaw can suit a variety of statements, from bold and bright to neutral and adaptive. The cooler brown of “Stardust” matches without being too monochromatic, while the olive undertones of “Rattan” bring out the more yellow undertones.

Color Theory by Cambria

If you remain vexed by the prospect of bringing individual pieces of furniture or décor together in a cohesive style, Cambria recommends starting with a single colorful focal point and centering the color scheme and design around it. For example, choose a bold area rug and use some of the pattern’s shades to match with wall art or paint color, or start with a statement countertop design and center your palette on it.

While some color trends may fall out of style – think the avocado green of the 70s – there are plenty of shades like navy and taupe that are modern and trendy, but sure to stand the test of time. Use bold colors as easy-to-change accents – think bold furniture rather than bright wallpaper – so that you can adapt as the trends change, and embrace the classic elements like natural stone to build your design foundation.

Other Options to Complete Your Vision

In addition to the Paint Match Tool, both Cambria and MARVA have extensive inspiration galleries to show how your designs look in action. Easily navigated by brand, category, product and industry, these galleries can give you a better sense of how your favorite Cambria design will look when installed. Simply choose a design and see how it looks in a residential or commercial setting, including fireplace surrounds, bar tops, kitchen counters, bathroom vanities, and more. These inspirational catalogs can even suggest options you may not have considered, like a kitchen backsplash, or an unexpected edge option for your Cambria countertops.

Once you’ve narrowed down the potential matches, consider the light in your space, your overall aesthetic (do you want your countertop to stand out against neutral backgrounds, or make a statement with lots of color?), and current trends to choose the perfect pigment for your project. A lighter, warmer color can curate natural light for a small, windowless space like a bathroom, whereas a bold color might be well suited for accent walls.

Even if you’ve already found our perfect paint match, you can utilize the Paint Match Tool to mine for palette inspiration for hardware, cabinets, backsplashes, or even sinks.
